forget dogs - its the bull owners at Newtown Creek

But was it a public footpath? Common land? Excepted land with right of access or the farmers land with access rights?

The one near Newtown that I was deterred from crossing was a signposted public footpath across what I presumed to be a farmer's land. Note that we don't have a dog and we'd landed at Newtown Quay for a walk whilst moored in the creek so if we avoid a religious war regarding dogs or farmers perhaps this can be an informational boating-related discussion. I *think* it was 15a on this map:

A couple of years ago walking that route SWMBO and I met the farmer and wife in one of the fields. Very pleasant couple and we had a long chat mainly about the birds we see in and around the harbour. They happily directed us to the shortest route back to the jetty across the fields as it was getting close to sunset. On the basis of that meeting I would be surprised if the presence of the signs was an indication of malice. Probably a requirement of their insurance.
