Hi there, any information or confirmed knowledge on the recommended length of forestay for Bavaria 42 Cruiser (2006). It is a standard Selden mast and Furlex. I did not measure the mast height but sail data.com says 17.91 m from DWL. I guess there are not options for the mast.

I also wonder the recommended rake, tension values with the shrouds, etc.

I appreciate if you(people) can provide or share experiences with these parameters.

thnx. Azuro

Welcome

You will find all you need to know about your Selden rig and how to set it up here support.seldenmast.com/en/technical_info/rigging_instructions.html

Nor sure why you would want to know the specific forestay length, but it is easy to measure for the purpose od determining luff length for sail or replacing the stay which uses a Stalock lower terminal and the wire is cut to length as the foil is assembled.

All you need is a 20 metre tape measure and a bit of time. You may also learn a few other useful things about your boat and rig by actually looking and measuring.
Also, I second Tranoa about the Selden mast technical info for definitive knowledge on setting up rigging, very informative regardless of the spars' make.

Tranona and srm,

thnx for your replies. I want to reach the optimum sailing performance, and start with the rigging. For sure, I can try adjustment and reach there, however, for sure, there are some sailors who are already there with Bavaria 42 rigging.

I can start with their figures and improve the perf. of my boat with minor adjustments or trying less number of adjustments. That s the reason why I seek for previous (adjusted/recommended) figures with the forestay length and shroud/stay tensions.

I appreciate if you also tell rules to reach more members on the forum.

Greetings from Marmaris, South Aegean.

The best Bavaria specific forum is here bavariayacht.org/forum/index.php and you could ask your question there. However, suspect you will get much the same answer. There is no "recommended" length for the forestay. The upper and lower attachment points are fixed and the stay is made up to that length. As it is a fractional rig, tension is achieved mostly by the upper shrouds and to an extent the backstay. again there is no tension specific to this boat, but is determined primarily by the size of the wire and the Selden guide will give you all the information you need to set up the rigging yourself using a Loos tension gauge, or you could get an experienced rigger to do it for you.

You will find that the Bavaria is not very sensitive to rig adjustments - it is a simple cruising boat and performance is more affected by the quality of your sails then fine tension adjustments. The standard Bavaria sails are not very good and if you are getting better sails made then best to discuss with your sailmaker how to get the best out of them.

Tranona,
once again thanks for the info and lead, gonna follow it. Perhaps, I ask for smt. not-utmost-necessary. I am coming from a racing background on farr 30s n farr 40s, that's also reason (or an attitude) to fine tune the rigging, however the improvement may be little to non due to sail performance. It is a firm point. I will try to find the Selden guide and a Loos t/g. (I ve used in the past).

Anyway, thanks for the advice, appreciate it, I m a new co-owner of a b42 n wanna fine tune the boat. thank you for your time.

You are welcome. You will find the Bavaria very different from the boats you are used to. It is designed for easy sailing so there is a limit to how much "tweaking" you can do. You will find the Selden guide in the link in post#2.

Hope you enjoy your Bavaria. I have owned 2 , a 37 from 2001 and currently a 2015 33. They are excellent cruising boats.
