Forestay and baby stay tension

Hi Guys
One of our boatyard people has sorted out my floppy forestay now.He removed a toggle about 45mm long.I now know the difference between a toggle and a shackle! Just a half hour labour charge including adjusting the shrouds which are fore and aft.The foil now rotates smoothly and the bearings in the furler seem to be OK but I would
like to get some lubrication on if possible.Will start a new thread about Plastimo 809S.Thanks again

Where was the toggle? There really should be one at the top though my boat originally had two and one was removed still leaving both fore and aft and sideways articulation possible.

Some masts such for example those made by Francespar have two forestay attachments, One at the very top for masthead rigging and one 4/5 lower for fractional rigging. The OP sounds like he is using both so that the fractional rigging becomes a baby stay. The advanatge of this arrangement is that one can get away without having to use running backstays.

Unlikely this is a Francespar on an old Colvic - probably a Proctor and it is masthead rigged.

Hello I didn't see the whole job being done but as far as I know there were two toggles in line connecting the forestay to the deck and now there is only one or altenatively there was one and now none.

If that's the case, you need to have the job done properly as you need toggles top and bottom on a forestay, other wise the side loadings and the pumping backwards and forwards will cause failure in the turnbuckle fork as it won't be able to articulate in every direction.

The photo posted in #15 appears to show at least two shackles or toggles. Hopefully if one remains it is a toggle and will provide the necessary articulation.

It is difficult to see , however , how any lateral articulation of the connection can be effective within the confines of the Plastimo side plates.

Ah yes - at least 2! What a cobbled together mess including what looks like bolts cross loaded on their threads..

I don't think the side plates offer any real resistance to the movement of the forestay.
