Ford Watermota? Any opinions?

I'm looking at a boat with a 50hp Ford Watermota XLD418 (fresh water cooled). On this specific version the engine hours are about 2.5k.

Any opinions of these, reliability, serviceability etc?

Old Ford 1.8 Diesel engine from an Escort is the base unit. Parts should be cheap and plentiful and if it blows up, you could source a replacement base unit from a scrapyard. Not the most fuel efficient but a million Escorts/Fiestas can't be wrong :cat:

There are two timing belts and I would suggest these are changed. Fairly straightforward if you can get acess to front of engine and the left side so as to get timing pin. You would need to buy a timing kit from eBay at about £20 ish. Spares very cheap.
