Hi everybody
Been looking at a boat today.
It has 2 of these fitted.
I’m told there ford sabre 6 cylinder 212 turbo Diesel engines.
What’s your thoughts on these. Especially parts availability etc?
Many thanks

I have similar on my boat - no problem with spare parts and the prices OK, plus plenty of commercial truck engine parts for these Fords. routine spares such as belts and filters are very good value.

The only issue I have had so far is rusted zinc plated bolts some idiot used to secure the seawater coolant pipes onto the covers on the intercooler caps. these I have now machined out and replaced with A2 stainless which should be a better match with the brass covers.

I'm a bit late to this however, I re engined my Ranger 36 with two of them late last year. No problems with them to date and yes, parts are readily available.

Agree with the posters above, they are fine engines, especially if you have the later 'Dover' block versions rather than the earlier 'Dorset blocks, much less smoky.

NB that engine has the dual stacked intercoolers meaning that they are 300hp and above not 212hp. That could mean that they are 6.7 litre overbored, pistons for these are impossible but thay can be linered back to the 6 litre standard size and the fuel pumps downrated if they need a rebuild.
