We are considering replacing our old Ford 'York 2401E' 58hp 4 cyl engine in our Nich 39 with a replacement Ford marinised engine, typically supplied by a well know marinising firm on the South Coast, as a direct replacement for our original. Thus no new engine beds etc. The replacement engine is a Ford FSD 66hp continuous 4 cyl 2.5 ltr. The original engine has never been re-bored and has provided the previous owners with good service, thus my thinking is that if the original lasted 24 years these engines must be pritty good. Does anyone out there have any experience of these Ford FSD series engines - good or bad?

The FSD has been in zillions of Ford Transits for quite some time and is built in various forms, however it has just been supeceded in the latest Trannie by the Puma (engine not Car) this is a 2.4 litre diesel built in Turkey. Most important differences are that it's mechanical injection etc. and not electronic and it also has a lot ofr aluminium in it;s build so is 30kg lighter. Ford diesels arevery reliable bearing in mind they are designed for white van man to thrash around, not bother to service etc. As far as I am aware I've not heard of any recurring faults with the 2.5 and being a worldwide Ford bits will be as common as and as cheap as chips.
