Hi there,

Have recently purchased a old kauri bridgedecker launch. Fitted with a Ford 510e 6050 or 6d I believe.
Being such an old motor there is limited info available, just keen on any helpful info on these, seems to be building crankcase pressure, I think the breather is blocked.
Thanks in advance on anything helpful.

These old Fords come in a couple of flavours, Devon or Dorset I think. Used in old trucks and farm machinery, worth looking at relevant forums?
How is the Simms pump lubricated? I think some were fed engine oil, that might dilute the oil. Later ones had their own sump but in my experience that needed topped up quite often.

Hi Gordmac,

Thanks for your reply. It's even older, called a dagenham I believe.
Starts and purrs first pop, but is building high crankcase pressure and blasting out the lower breather. I cant find an upper breather.
Other than that, I'm not very familiar with it yet, have just pulled the engine box to bits and getting up and personal. The fun begins.

Dorset up to 2719 or Dover 2720 onwards.

But this engine is earlirr, ot'll have the external shaft unning the injection pump, lovely to watch!

I imagaine the crankcase breathing is because its a bit tired.

Is there a breather built into the oil filler cap? How much comes out if you take the filler cap off when running?

There is an American company that makes crankcase breathers thar collect the oil and return it to the sump. I fitted one to an old Volvo some years ago and solved the oil spray problem totally. Can't recall the name at the moment. Found it! Walker Airsep!
