I'm considering buying a 1985 model Ford 2726T engine that has only 250 hours on the counter. It is suppoosed to be 150 Hp, but by fitting an intercooler it should be possible to get 225 Hp. Any experiences on this engine? Reliability? Special things to look for?

Is it a Sabre or Mermaid?, tell me the make if not either of these as trying to get any more hp may be the road to disaster, as the power goes up so does the need to cool it, also on many ford turbo based engines the camshaft has a different profile to alter valve timing, piston oil cooling jets are req to stop overheat and seizure. The std form is about 120 hp, the 150 has just a turbo, no intercooler, also the turbo may only be air cooled, it really needs to be watercooled.
Get the full spec before buying!.

It is a Sabb-Ford marinized by Sabb Motor in Norway. They used Ford as base engine for lots of years.

I was mostly conserned about the base engine in a marine application, but thanks for the tip on turbo cooling.
