have just bought the engine to replace the bmc, does anybody know how to power up the solenoid on the fuel pump, its got 3 thin black wires coming out of the back of the pump , or is it s replace the pump with an older type, thanks

If you can wait a few days, I will look at my Ford 1800D manual when i next go down to the boat. If you want to get the engine running in a hurry, you can just remove the plunger and stop the engine on the Anti stall lever (CAV) Bosch will be different.

Sorry to take so long but manual does not give details of the solenoid on the fuel pump. One of the wires might be an earth return so you could check with a meter between the wires and the body of the valve. The other two could be a stronger winding to pull the plunger out with the second winding to simply hold it in place once it is opened. (just a guess)

Dont forget to check the condition of the two timing belts otherwise you will get a bang and an ouch (the ouch being financial)
