Well this is all rather interesting. I presumed everyone would go mad at the suggestion of ditching the search facility, but it seems everyone that has replied thinks it's rubbish (I agree wholeheartedly!).
However, the slight conundrum is the fact that an equal number of people claim to want to keep the search, but haven't actually replied (not that this should matter in a poll).
I guess one option would be to ditch the search and then make it clear for those not familiar with the particulars of search engines how they can best search YBW.
How are you counting those votes?? Only one third said that they would live without a search engine - a whopping two-thirds said they wanted/needed one!
However, a big factor would be how long the search facility is down for.
Another point....those who limit their forum usage to chit-chat and asking questions will probably seldom use the search. Those who actually answer most of those questions are the ones who need the search engine to research previous posts. Without an effective way to search, I will be unable (or unwilling) to try to help around 20% of those questions I presently assist with. I suspect that many of the other 'frequent helpers' would feel the same.
Don't confuse the needs of those who simply ask questions with the needs of those who answer them!
