A St Andrew's cross (bought last year in the mistaken belief that it was good form to fly it while sailing in Scotland) to the first person to correctly identify the two oldest men pictured.

Ardnamurchan point. Freestyle shows off her new genny (just before the starboard aft lower failed).

A Rhum anchorage. Anyone fancy nipping up the mast to repair the spreader?

The notorious Loch Scavaig looks menacing to a newcomer . . .

. . . and to visit the grave of cousin Willie, who died, aged 16 weeks, of measles.

Could this be one of the crofts cleared by uncle John?

Another brisk sail to visit the most Northerly pub in the British Isles, on Yell.

Ere! you can't go sailing in a kilt! What about your ground tackle? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Absolutly fab pics.
Looks like you had some really nice weather, and some choppy seas.
Was the "Big boy" in the sound of Mull, the Royalist?

Thanks. The tall ship in the Sound of Mull was the Lord Nelson.

Since departing her mooring on the Menai Strait, Freestyle has done just over 1200 Nm in three stages. (1) Via Campbelltown, Craobh, Tobermory, Rhum, Skye, Loch Nevis and Ardrisaig to Corpach for the first change of crew - 10 days, sailing every day, including one 25 hour stretch on the port tack during which I learned much about possible sources of water in the bilge. (2) Via Caledonian canal to Inverness - 12 days. (3) Via Lerwick, Mid Yell, a circuit of Fetlar, Wick of Tresta, Voxter Voe (Sullom Voe), Gruney, Papa, Scalloway, Stromness, Kyle of Durness, Cape Wrath, Loch Laxford, Loch Torridon, Kyle of Lochalsh, and Ornsay to Kerrera - 15 days, including 4 days waiting for changes in the weather. The most exciting sail of the trip was the passage, at night, from Stromness to Kyle of Durness in a good F5 SE, partly in fog. The AIS receiver earned its keep. The skipper was enjoying himself so much that stayed on watch a little too long and got disorientated at about 0200 when someone switched on a white light in the saloon. He had seen some shooting stars earlier, but found it odd to see one on the horizon during a crash jibe. It wasn't a shooting star, it was the Strathy point light. Which reminds me: Freestyle needs a new line on the mainsheet traveller.

Lucky? Yes very - it is indeed a great privilege to be able to sail in such magnificent waters.

It does look like TS Royalist..... a wonderful experience for kids if there ever was one.

Come to think of it, the Royalist has a long narrow wooden bow sprit.
Yeh, I wish I had an opertunity like that when I was young.

Hi Freestyle,

Great Pics and glad you managed to get the weather to go around the Cape. When looking for old men, I did seem to see Boomerangben senior up your mast, but he's not quite as old as Messrs Hoy and Stoer.

Yep, Boomerangben senior was the third oldest man. And thanks for a great night out in Lerwick. (But, erm, don't you need to edit your profile, now that your location is no longer the Outer Hebrides but the Independant Republic of Shetland?)

The names are nae probs - STML!!!

Actually it's more like long term memory loss .... How's about The Shepherd, Am Buchaille and the other is .... the Old Man of Stoer /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I climbed both in the 70's (I don't think that the first one is A'Chailleach [Fishwife] and the second doesn't look like Handa [also female!])
