Plastic laminated A4 chart. I colour photocopy relevant bits of charts onto A4 and then laminate them. They're indispensible when piloting and are totally water proof.

Re: Charts ...

I do similar without photo-copy / laminate .... I fold the Imray / Admiralty jobbie into the Imray plastic wallet such that I see the most important bits on each side ..... bit inbetween is solent general and not so necessary !!

The solent is cold enough surely to hang it in a netting style bag ??? over the arse end ?????

Re: Furling ....

I agree wholeheartedly .... and would add that for all those that want a correctly setting 'part furled' sail .... either a temp. stay and small er dedicated sail .... back to hard work ... or the easier way ... the Barber Hauler system with a small line and block to alter the lead of the sheets ... All you have to do is set your sheets as far back as possible on the deck via a pad-eye and then have the hauler set via the ford most point to be able to haul the sheet down to required setting ..... then all positions of furling will be ok !

But I can even tack / change course / etc. with the autohelm .... still pulling ring-pulls !!!

Not altogether for the boat but, I suppose it benefits as theoreticaly I'm less likely to damage it.

Getting my day skipper theory and starting yachtmaster.

Mine\'s Tracy

She makes me laugh when I'm down, drives when I can't, keeps me warm when I need it. She also makes time alone less hard, gives me a reason for coming back and is someone I can gently tease to make the hours pass.

Yep, getting married brought me the best possible fitting in my life - letalone just on my boat.

Help - I hope she doesn't read this! It'll give her too much ammunition for later.

Regards

Richard

Re: Self Tailing Winches (Not that I\'ve got em) NM

Had 'em, tried 'em, liked 'em ... next boat can't afford 'em !!

Back to Lewnmar plain winches !!

Re: Hi tech

GPS has had a great impact on ease of sailing; The Garmin perhaps more than any...the antenna makes a great toilet roll holder when abluting el fresco.

I got mine from OfficeWorld. There are 2 types, cold & hot. The cold ones are cheaper but the envelopes are more expensive. I bought a hot one (so to speak) and from memory it was c£60. Well worth it though.

You could try Macro if you know someone who has a card. If you're VAT registered, then you'll be able to reclaim. I work in the offshore industry, and we use them to laminate notices, instructions etc that go out on the plant. It can get a bit wild & wet here, and paper would get a wee bit soggy without being covered, so they are definately nice things to have!

laminators ....

Magic science before ..... now available even in Argos / Smiths etc. ..... but best is serious proper Office Stationery shop ..... sizes ranging from the credit card type to produce ID cards etc. - right up to humungous ...... I think its B5 ??
