now that we have £400 on the 'for sale' forum what is the feeling that ebay has started to take control?
Many sellers now are posting here with a link to ebay, but not mentioning price.
what the feeling of others?

Some ( staff ) might not be allowed to trade here, hence the link.
i buy & sell on both, its less "Personal" on fleabay & has a wider audience.

I haven't used the For Sale forum much before but do have a big list of stuff on there now as a clearout. Personally I don't like the ebay link route as a potential buyer (I ignore such ads) and therefore I won't go that way as a seller. My feeling is that if it is offered here for sale that is to give fellow forum folks first look see, but if it doesn't sell here then OK move on to somewhere else like ebay.

I don't think that's a fair point. I allways post a link to eBay, and I sell my stuff for more money on eBay than I do if I offer it on here at first look. And I've sold stuff that's rather expensive, not something at £20! To me eBay has a wider audience, by posting my link on here I extend my audience to people that are interested in boat bits.

Happy sailing

Must agree with Robin, it would be a shame if this section became a glorified link to Ebay. In the past I have seen items free, cheap or undervalued to the benefit of forum members. It would be a shame it this were to be lost, even worse if hawks were on the lookout for bargains to flog on.

I take it you have loads of money and dont mind letting your items go for peanuts. I have recently upgraded many parts on my boat, this would not of been possible if I gave the old parts away for free!

i do understand why you post on ebay as you said you can get alot more there. But why post on here? stay with you best option!!
I peroanally hope that the ebay virus doesn't infect this forum.
I would prefer that no link be made to ebay from here, i dont mind ebayers selling or buying but this seemed to be one of the last genuine buying selling forums for us boaters.
I understand why Dan reluctantly increased the forum ceiling, now i wished that it had stayed at £200.
Can you remember what the boat jumble used to be like? Today its full of traders!!

I think that the links to ebay should be banned. I have reported serial resellers who don't post on the forum normall and got them pulled,

The only link allowed (because its a free site) should be to a picture of the item for sale - IMHO

I think there should be no link to ebay allowed

I use ebay for business but dont put any thing on here unless its from my boats, I tend to find people get greedy and think its fine to abuse the for sale thingy on here. Ok yes we all have the choice.
I always look on the for sale and wanted here and at times get lucky

cheers
Mick

Many on here are running their boats on a shoestring (or a pension). I have picked up the odd bargain & met some lovely forumites in the process. And passed on a couple of bargains too - it is good to see someone happy with their bargain.

If you need the money stick to e-bay, if you want to help fellow forumites, then post on here at a reasonable price to pass it on. But please don't mix the two. Most people on here won't follow the links anyway so you gain little & risk alienating potential friends.

Another vote for no e-bay links, they are NOT in the club spirit of the fora.

I have let stuff go on the for sale section here for just the offer of a donation to the RNLI on a number of occassions; I've no idea whether the recipients have actually made the donation I just take their word that they will and I like that. On a couple of occasions I've given stuff to folk where I've thought it right. I've been very skint in the past but can now let stuff go for next to nothing to do others a good turn and that thought has been reciprocated a number of times by others to me and again, I like that. I've also found only honesty from other forum members; I've always send money/goods immediately upon agreeing a deal and expect to receive the counterpart consideration and always have and again, I really like the honesty that I've experienced.

No such camaraderie exists on Ebay so I steer well clear. Bizarrely this forum seems like a virtual yacht club to me and although I've not met many forumites I strangely feel that a gentlemans code (no sexism intended) flourishes - and that is a rare thing these days and I like that too!

Should links to Ebay be excluded? Yes I think so.

I think the new 400pound limit is a good move but agree there should not be a link to ebay as it will spoil the forum perhaps we should have a ballot as before with the new limit of 400 pounds being agreed
