why are the Tecma toilets so much better, how do they work compared to the toilets in my boat

AFAIK, they work in a similar way but the macerator is a much more efficient design, the pipework is larger (40mm?) without sharp bends and they use a flap type non return valve which doesn't restrict flow rather than a restrictive joker valve. Animation here

Seriously, why not wrap the base of the loo with heating tape, as used in Arctic Trawlers to prevent pipes freezing ? Then not only does your situpon have something warm to sit upon at 2 in the morning, but the turds remain at the same flexible state that nature gave them in the lower colon.

The tecma is better in all respects. Full porcelain bowl not plastic. A lovely curved water flow path with no stupid 90 deg bends which jabsco's engineers should be ashamed of. A clever u bend design to feed the turd into the macerator. A clever flap valve not a joker valve, as mike said. A proper curved centrifugal pump. Inset razor blades in the macerator casing. A MUCH more powerful motor that pulls a full 30 amps steady state at 24 v. 38 mm pipe throughout. A much quieter motor. A clever touch control panel that makes jabsco's look pre war.

They come in 12 or 24v spec but if you bought the eBay one your have to change the motor for the 12 v version and that's around 150£. Plus you would need thicker wiring Nd bigger circuit breaker to handle the much higher current. So not hugely practical unfortunately.

Use proper sanitation grade 38mm pipe. Should be able to go 2-3 years between service. I replaced my first pair after 12 years.

Shawn has already changed all his pipe for the super yacht grade money no object butyl rubberised pipe, rather than the shiney white stuff which isn't as good.

Agreed - fw flushing is much nicer. But tecma are 10x better than any loo that jabsco ever made or even dreamed of

A little input from a raggie, if I may.

Golden rules on our boat
- if we are in a marina, all Number 2's are to be done in their facilities (which means the boat heads are 'quieter' )
- Nothing down the heads which hasn't been consumed first (ie no tampons or condoms either, which always gets a giggle when briefing guests)
- He/she who blocks it has to unblock it.

Yup that's the stuff that was installed in the build of my current boat. I think this stuff and the vetus stuff are same spec broadly, though they are not identical nor the same thing rebadged. I'd never go back to the smooth white pipe after using this butyl lined stuff

yes terry that link is the stuff I used, be care full when you have cut it as it leaves a very sharp strand of steel on the end of the coil that can cause a nasty cut, how do I now this
