This came through on another list I subscribe to:

EA issued the following:

Foot and Mouth Disease – Egham confirmed case 12/09/07

This is a developing situation but I wanted to keep you informed of the
current position.

PROTECTION ZONE

A Protection Zone has been established which includes the Thames between
Walton and Runnymede. The towpath is now closed between Dumsey Meads and
Chertsey Bridge. No public access will be allowed in accordance with DEFRA
access restrictions.

Boating can continue at present, but boaters are instructed not to stop or
moor in the above-mentioned, closed area.

SURVEILLANCE ZONE

Outside the Protection Zone, a wider Surveillance Zone has been established
which includes the Thames between just downstream of Boveney Lock and Thames
Ditton. There are no navigation restrictions in place, the towpath remains
open and boating may continue as normal.

Across the whole of the Protection and Surveillance Zones we are encouraging
people to moor in urban areas if possible and to avoid visiting land with
livestock if they disembark.

We are preparing posters to put up at locksites giving the essential
information as well as handouts for boaters. We will be distributing these
to you as soon as we can. Information is being put on our Infoline and
Visitthames website and THCA members are being updated through the usual
mechanism via Kris cruisers.

Much of the Wey Navigation lies within the Protection Zone but navigation
continues there as well, although there is also a section of towpath that
has been closed and mooring prohibited.

The situation is being monitored closely and may change rapidly; information
will be updated on a regular basis.

Went up to Whitchurch yesterday. The Bozedown Alpaca Farm had signs along their moorings saying that they are closed due to foot and mouth restrictions.
