I had a first class meal in a pub near the ferry terminal in central Gosport last week. The CASTLE - the lamb cutlets were as tasty as any I can ever remember.
A nice atmosphere in the place too.

If the kitchen is as disgusting as the toilets you risk catching something in this place. The food is over-rated huge portions of tasteless stodge
Apart from that, the bitter is ok though.

but what does that mean? It's a rubbish pub now but brilliant restaurant. It's no longer a pub. It's rubbish pub and restuarant

it's ok as a pub, it serves pub food. if you expecting gourmet then go elsewhere. its reasonably priced and has large portions. good meeting point before a cross channel slog!

I thought I would give The Castle another try last Saturday, I'm afraid the food is still a matter of quantity over quality - if you enjoyed school dinners you will enjoy the Castle food. It's a nice pub, beer is good and bar staff friendly - if only they could improve the quality of their food. On a happier note the Lightship in Haslar has been taken over by the owner of Landers so hopefully we should see a much needed improvement there.

I agree, went back to the Castle in Gosport last Monday night as we were late and not much was open. Still as horrible as ever, if the halved the quantities and improved the quality by 50% it would be ok.
But why don't they do something about the disgusting toilets?

We went to Castle on Bank Hol Sun as we thought we would give it try after a 5 year gap (the meal then was that bad). We really should have gone to the chippy. Smoked Haddock was a tiny portion, served with salad, veg and potatoes - a huge plate of fairly tasteless stodge. As someone else said if they cut the quantity and increased the quality, it might be better.

What puzzles me is where all the ppl in the new developments around Gosport go. I cant believe they frequent the grotty pubs in and around Gosport.

Agree, went to the lightship last Saturday for the first time since it has been taken over. The chilli and curry were excellent. The breakfasts are also excellent. Landers and the Lightship are the only places to eat in Gosport IMHO.

The Lightship is on the outside of the visitors' moorings at Hasler marina. It is literally a Lightship. I have only been there from the marina, and I guess from outside you need to use the speakerphone to the marina office to get in.

Agree with comments re the Castle, It also puzzles me regarding where the residents of the new dockside developments go.
I tend to find myself heading towards Wetherspoons in the high street, its normally quieter in the back and beer normally cheap and drinkable. I like the thursday night curry and beer for £3,99 nights.
