Following Robin's example I've just done another anchor survey

Re ChrisE.
I am intrigued really cos fishermen do seem more fearless about anchoring over rocky or foul ground- goes with the territory perhaps?

Having only caught one fish in 3 years I have a bit to learn ahem.

Question. Do you bother with some sort of trip line or do you buoy it and come back if well and truly wedged , or...?

You are right that anchoring in and about rough ground is what anglers do, simply because generally speaking these areas hold most fish.

Regarding technique, what I and others do is rig the chain to the end of the stock, near the 'bend' in anchor and use cable ties to hold the chain to the top of the stock. Thus the anchor deploys normally and if the anchor gets stuck then a bit of a pull and the ties break, inverting the anchor and up she comes, usually.... I've lost 4 anchors over the past 5 years but interestingly none in the past two years, since I changed to a Bruce.

BTW, I'm not recommending this technique for sleeping at anchor. With the yot I either trip the anchor or more usually anchor in areas where the bottom is not foul.

Seeing that the Bruce is one of the few anchors you can do this with (straight shank that the chain can be cable tied too, and a hole at the end), do you believe it's fare to assume that this is why the Bruce is so popular among fisher folk?

You might say that but you'd be wrong, the Brittany and Delta alikes, to name but two that I've lost, have the same arrangement.....
