If an invitation event were to be held for "Folkboat Clones" what would the criteria for inclusion be?

About 26ft long, longish keel, transom hung rudder, sloop rigged? (no standing head room, damp, cramped, yes I know)

Folkboat, Contessa 26, Invicta 26, Halcyon 27, Stella, Twister. What have I left out?

What about a Vertue or is their design pre Folkboat? The Francis 26 has a different pedigree but I think would be invited. I'm not so sure about Cutlass 27s and others without primitive rudder technology.

For how many generations do you care to go? For example it is said that the folkboat lead to the Contessa 26, which led to the Sadler 25 and in turn the Sadler 26

Definitely Folksong and Marieholme boats ;) Closer than any of those on your list.

I don't think the Cutlass 27 has been mentioned on either thread and there is also the pure form of the Nordic Folkboat.

I would not recommend buying one of the smaller Folkboats as a first boat - you tend to get a touch of the first wife syndrome.

It's a silly size as well.

Most folk would use the well in the lazerette and a 4/5hp unit. There is a blanking plug and room to stow a longshaft in the same locker.

Sorry but that outboard swinging about on the stern looks hideous .

Yes, but very useful. The photo was taken from my boat. Later that day we suffered a prop failure and the Marieholm towed us for 10 miles along the Gota canal.

The guy had just bought the thing and was on a delivery trip home. He changed the engine that winter.

How close do you go ? Halcyon 27ft, standing headroom, by Alan Buchanan, moulded of a wooden 'Diamond II' class Ace of Diamonds, which follows the East Coast classes in designs.

There were a lot of long keel 26 / 27 foot yachts to that spec before the Folk Boat, and after, some a direct a direct clone, some just the same length.

Well, the Samphire 26 is long keeled, transom hung rudder, and sloop rigged, but would have to be excluded because it has standing headroom, and is dry and spacious. Pity, that! ;)

Thank you for the replies.

The list now seems to be Folkboat, Folksong, Contessa 26, Invicta 26, Marieholm 26, Samphire 26, Diamond, Halcyon 27, Stella and Twister. Were one to hold an event for these boats I think Vertues and Frances 26s would also be invited.

The Folkdancer is a good looking boat but has no transom hung rudder.

Cutlass? (already mentioned by someone, but not in the list)
South Coast One Design?
Hurley 27?

The International Folkboat should be first on the list of clones. Below are some photos of my own International Folkboat , "Grendel", which I sold many years ago and still miss.

Amen to that.

Here is a link to a bloggo showing a superb restoration of a 26:

The owner posts on here as Regatta and is probably too modest to point this out himself.
