Thanks to all that gave advice on caulking/filling my Folkboat. But i have another question. If I use red lead putty (which seems to be the consensus), the idea being that as the hull takes up it will slowly squeeze out, does that mean that i cannot paint the hull until the boat has taken up fully?
If so i will get on with the fit out first as my time will be better used. Any advice is as always appreciated.

Not at all; go ahead and paint, but expect that there will be rounded ridges along the seams as the putty gets extruded. These will not be serious, just a cosmetic problem. When you next bring the boat ashore, slice off the excess putty with a chisel blade and paint over. You'll possibly have to do this for 3 years or so, until everything stabilises again. Another possibility is to finish the seams slightly hollow [very fashionable in the U.S.] so that the putty will squeeze out to form a flush surface.
Peter.
