My Volvo 2 blade folding prop sheared its teeth at 3 years old. Another boat (same make and model) bought in the same year 2005 had exactly the same failure at the same age. I will not buy another Volvo 2 blade folder but how can I know if any other make/model will be more reliable? I fancy the Slipstream stainless 2 blade prop because it must be much stronger but it costs £1,800. The Flexofold 2 blade folding prop performs well and is £600 cheaper but its sail drive version has an anode indicating it will corrode if the anode is eroded before the annual lift out. Has anyone had long term experience of either the Slipstream or Flexofold 2 blade folding props?

They only started fitting the anodes, which are tiny, a few years ago, apparently to get Yanmar approval. Flexofold maintain the anodes are not necessary because of the bronze alloy used and the isolation of prop from shaft.
I woild value Vyv Cox's thoughts.
Worth phoning Darglow and discussing it with the very charming technical lady there who really seems to know her stuff.
I have one which is 6 yes old and perfect but until March this year it was in fresh water.
Anxious to see how it is on next lift out!

I have a Felexofold 2 blade on a saildrive without an a node. no problems. As Plevier says anodes are a recent fitment because there was some resistance from customers to a prop without anodes as all the other (inferior) ones fit them! Far superior bit of kit to the self destructing Volvo branded props.
