Folding Bike

We bought a couple of folding bikes from the wonderful Biltema shops when in Denmark this summer.
£240 each....surprisingly good for the money with rack and stand.

Lots of Boaty stuff in Biltema - I raided them in Sandnes (Stavanger) numerous times....

What I like about the Brompton is that you can put into the supermarket trolley. No padlocking up outside.

At £1560.00 a taxi might be more economic! :)

Firstly healthy “boat show discount” which mostly negated the “marinization” but aside from that...taxi between Brighton marina and the station: £10 one way. Taxi London Bridge to Canary Wharf..dunno. £20? So that’s £60 a day. Public transport which I currently use is £10.80 a day (excluding train which would continue to be the same cost). So no, taxi wouldn’t be more economical. I wonder whether viv_cox’s 15 year old bikes are kept in the med. Brighton marina in winter destroys bikes. Spending a lot on a “normal” bike wouldn’t make sense. I could get something “disposable” and replace it every year but then I’d be wrangling a cr@p bike every day. So I thought I’d give this a go

We have a couple of old Compass ones, of 2001 and 2003 vintage, rusty where not covered in Hammerite, and use them a lot. Big advantage is Sturmey Archer type gears. Haven’t been wrecked by other things in the locker as would have been if Shimano or similar.

OK if you want to spend a lot on a bike, but you will have to find somewhere secure to put it if you want it to still be there on your return.
Kind of the point of a Brompton: you take it into work and stick it under your desk. Then you get home and stick it in a locker rather than the marina bike rack. At least that's the theory. I'll find out if it's the practice too.

Yes, mostly at Leros where they are close on essential to ride into town, a good 20 minute walk for fitter, younger people. When we are in the marina the bikes are never stowed and last year we made the mistake of leaving them ashore while we went sailing for about a month. Their condition deteriorated noticeably during that time.
