About to start a project making a holding tank using foam sandwich . Can anyone tell me of a supplier of the foam. It used to be called airex foam but I cannot find a supplier. Preferably in the North West.
If you only want a small amount then you would be better off talking to a local boatbuilder or fabricator. This is because it is so bulky that the carriage is a problem.
You would be better off getting a quote from someone like Tektanks, as polyester is not very good at holding back pongs, even if you use airex.
Try Divincyl for foam.
I only need about 4 sq m. of 5mm. I built a 26ft yacht from airex about 20 years ago and was supplied by a firm in Bolton but I have lost all details. As mentioned Glasplies only do PU foam. Any suppliers down south?.

Well it might look good asthetically however SWIMBO might have something to say about the pong unless you are doing a good layup on the outside and the inside of the sandwich.
Pooh and pee are very pervasive and HD polyethelene is about the best thing as even without an excessive diet of kebabs and curry our Pee does things to the welds on SS tanks.
Holding tanks are available from Vetus etc at a very reasonable cost for standard shapes and Tek tanks will do to order for oddball sizes and shapes.

I don't think that this is a suitable material to make holding tanks out of. Much easier to make up cardboard formers and give to tek tanks to make real items out of Polythene. If you are making glassed in tanks and they don't work you could bugger the value of the whole boat, as no -one will want to buy a boat with stinking holding tanks. Don't think you should go there /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifIMHO
Discussed this on previous thread last week. Tank will be formed from airex closed cell 3mm foam laid up on both sides with csm and woven rovings. Inside and outside then painted with epoxy. Outside then covered in vynil to match rest of heads. Estimated cost £75. as opposed to custom quotes of £700 - £800.
Contact of IMPAG UK LIMITED very helpful with technical details and willing to deliver to Cheshire for free.
not thick enough, it will smell. Experience tells me this. Polyester is not waterproof. and epoxy paint will only keep liqued in.
I have been dealing with this problem for years, the only thing that works is polyethylene.
Talk to th Headmistress for the realsp.
