BTW. In support of the humble splitter, I sent a test call to Falmouth CG from the Dart, with the splitter fitted. They picked it up on their Rame Head (Plymouth) antenna as good and strong. I called and spoke to the officer who responded to the test to check the details. He could not have been more helpful, but it does show that the splitter works as it says.
That said, I do intend to fit a dedicated FM antenna. I just wanted to enjoy the weather on board!
