Flying with Life Jacket in the hold

Hi

Are there any issues with packing your life jacket within your hold luggage?

Would you unscrew the cartridge?

Thanks

Graham

I got recent experience. It was no trouble and I did unscrew the gas cylinder and kept it separate in the bag. Three airlines, three check ins, four flights. :encouragement:

Three airlines (Monarch, BA and Easyjet), six check-ins. No problems with checking our lifejackets and a spare cartridge into hold luggage. Regulations limit one lifejacket and one spare cartridge per checked hold bag. I didn't waste my time unscrewing the cartridge.

There's no problem. You could of course create problems by asking someone at check-in about your lifejacket as they are all programmed to say 'no'. You do this at your own peril. You have been warned...

I just flew SAS with a Jon buoy auto-inflate in my hold bag. The list forbids compressed gas, and I thought it best to let sleeping dogs lie..
When I arrived, I found my sailing knife in my carry-on bag :encouragement:

(I had forgotten to move it, and the search and X-ray missed it.. amazingly, the aircraft did not get hijacked! )
