Flying Dogs - How Much?

We are thinking of taking our Welsh Springer to Portugal, (21kg, medium sized dog). He has a passport, and wants to use it.

Does anyone have any idea of how much it costs to fly a dog from Manchester to Faro, (or other parts of Europe), and what you need to do to arrange it.

We originally thought it would be about £300 each way, but bumped into a german couple who pay about 50 euros one way from Germany.

I took a dog to the USA some years ago, and remember that the dog carrier that I bought cost more than the flight for the dog. I was however travelling Business Clas, so that might have influenced how much was charged to take the dog.
My advice is contact more than one airline, to see which offers the best overall deal for you and the dog.
