Flying a burgee/courtesy flag

I have no uphawl/downhawl in the shrouds. What is my best bet for fitting something simple?

Forgive the silly question, but what are staygrips?

Plastic clips that attach to your shrouds to hold flags, anchor lights, awnings etc.

Very interesting product, might be what I am after for the ensign on the backstay.

With the Staygrip, any ideas on how to get the top one up quite high (i.e. well out of hand reach)? Then I could hoist the ensign well clear of the cockpit and dangling in front of the helmsman's face just at the wrong moment...

If you get the tension right, by utilising the appropriate combination of grippers, you can push it up the stay with a boat hook and it will stay there.

I have found that a couple of Prusik knots do the job on a backstay.

A lashing dose the trick just add a dozen turns the friction holds it where you want coat an off cut of twine!!

that's how I fly my ensign on the mizzen topping lift.

I personally think that the staygrips are excellent and have several which I use for everything from hoisting my anchor ball to the washing line!!
