I'm thinking of doing one of those last minute deals this August. Total of 4 peeps don't care where. Bareboat for 14 days. Wouldn't mind either Croatia or Turkey?

Can anyone advise on the best places and if there are any "add on's" like marina charges/taxes etc.

I've done the Ionian but would consider going back.

Anyone recommend any companies?

Thanks in advance

sunsail is probably the "most british" for other people. Yeah, i know, like recommending woolworths but it's okay really. Sneak some drinks in cos their flippin bars where you have to be 1st and last nite are double local prices elsewhere the thieving gits. Yeah, i mean it sunsail - Thieving Gits charging london prices in greece fer crissakes!!!

we went to croatia with sunsail - great sailing but I agree re the above - last night left a strong feeling of being ripped off by the place we were forced to all go to by the lead crew who coincidentally seemed to know the owner of the bar very well!!! would not use them again for that and other reasons - sailing holidays always get a good mention in any similar posts I have read

Sailing Holidays were great! for us....it's the same don't matter what you do, my Brother was a driver/host for a large coach firm in europe....he would get all sorts of freebies from the owners of resturants, bars, gift shops....his wages were crap for the hours he put in and being on call 24 hrs! call it a perk! I would be the same as most....but as long as you get a good deal for the punters and give them a great time then things ballance out, my brother ex lead singer and gutiarist with a london band would entertain guest for free! It all comes down to quality and value for money at the end of the day!

We've done lots of Sunsail Charters in the past and another one this year. If you go for the late deals ( look on sunsail.com) you can make a really big saving, but you will have less choice. One down side, the Med can be unbearably hot in July and August. We went in August once and the temperature was up to over 50degrees. Add that to small cabins on an un air conditionend boat and it gets fairly uncomfortable ( IMHO). We ahve never been back to the Med in July or August. June and September are the best months.

The flotilla lead crews get fed for free at all the places they go, but that is because they wander round with a huge amount of business following. If you don't like the idea of group meals, then you're better off bare boating.

We have done a load out of Gocek and would always go back. There are lots of beautiful anchorages and places to moor up, all within a short distance. If you want to do a longer passage, you can head 50 odd miles down the coast past "The Seven Capes" and Patya beach to Kas and Kalkan, or even furhter to a lovely inlet called the Kekova Roads.

Top Yacht is a good bare boat company. Their boats are better equipped ( IMO) than Sunsail.

I cannot really fault Sunsail. It's always going to be expensive to charter with 2 people. Four makes it a lot more economical whoever you go with.

[/ QUOTE ]Three years ago, we chartered from Portway Yacht Charters out of Gocek, we cruised the E Lycian coast from Fethiye down to Antalya. Last minute job, brand-new Dufour well equipped and lovely peeps. Dont know if still same people running it - if interested try duncanray@veezy.com

Not sure they also cover flotillas, but we've had some good bareboat charters through www.latesail.com. They act as consolidators for any unbooked charters and sell them off at a discount. You won't be able to book until nearer the time, but I'd happily recommend them from our experiences.

Chartered last year from Corfu, the company was small and prices much cheaper than Sunsail but the boats probably much older

I have recently been receiving some good prices from Minataur Sailing as the missus and myself are considering sailing around the Saronic Islands this year.

When do you plan to take your holiday?

fully agree
for a really good deal bareboat is best and latesail gives boats across more marinas than the main big boys
less support with there not being loads of bases around to help you out but you pays your money and takes your choice
august wil be very hot and very busy in most of med so there is that to consider
would agreed about the london prices at sunsail clubs and the compulsory group meals can be a bit much ( depends on the group alot and the lead crew to be fair)

Here are some suggestions:
We run a sailing school in the Aegean and I can recommend Neilson out of Porto Kheli. Have met their boats many times and they seem to know what they are doing and have good lead crew.
Also Seafarer from Poros are worth looking at.
We've been told by students that Sailing Holidays in Croatia are very good.Sorry, don't have URLs for any of these but you should be able to find them by searching, or look at www.yachtchartergreece.com for the Greek ones.
