Hello

I am going to be in Florida for a couple of weeks in January/February. I'd love to be able to see some wooden boaats and maybe meet with some boat owners. Anybody got any contacts?

I live in Florida, and there are several groups of people who have wooden boats. There is a group that has meetings in Mount Dora, FL. They all own classic wooden motor boats - runabouts. Some truly beautiful boats.

As far as wooden sailboats....even though I own and live on a sailboat....I can't help you there. A wooden hull here in Florida in the salt water is a very heavy liability as there are several different types of wood borers.....and it is nearly impossible to get insurance on a wooden hull.

You may be able to find those groups though by doing a "yahoo search" using "Florida Wooden Boats" as the search parameters.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I would highly recommend that you plan on stopping by Mt. Dora, Florida (very close to Disney World) about the 1st week in March for the Annual Mt. Dora Antique and Classic Boat Show. There will be well over 150 antique and classic boats from all of the US displayed at this show. I don't have the exact dates right now but should have them soon. If you would like to see some pictures from last years show you can go here: http://www.photoaccess.com/share/guest.jsp?ID=AA01A421A1F&cb=PA
