The floor in my saloon is looking a little tired. Its that dark stuff with the thin parallel light stripes. I think it just needs a quick rub and some new varnish but what varnish? Any recommendations as I assume it needs to be hard but not slippery but most varnishes with those characteristics are marked for interior only and while the saloon is inside it does get a bit wet from time to time (and not just when I spill the G&Ts). Any recommendations (other than spill less drink!)? Thanks

I did mine last year with this.

Junkers Floor finish

This is a professional flooring finish - 2 part, does not suffer if water is left on it, and judging by lack of wear - especially on the companion way steps - incredibly hard wearing - keeping a deep and beatiful shine. I have not found it to be slippery when wet.

It is so easy to apply and dries in minutes. Only needed 2 coats. You will need to cut back to plain wood.

I used the Ronseal Diamond Hard Satin varnish on a previous boat, but it quite quickly lost the deep varnishy shine in areas of hard wear, but did not wear away.

If I had to do it again - I would prefer the Junkers - both are good.

Another vote for Ronseal Diamond Hard Satin varnish - sorry to be repetitive! I would also add that a few weeks ago I found one of the boards sitting in a puddle of water which had probably been there for some days. After drying off, the board seemed completely unaffected by its soaking. I had put seven coats of varnish on though.

I'm a Ronseal fan too. It has even withstood complete immersion in rainwater for a week when I had a big leak and came back to find the cabin sole boards floating! It went a bit milky but was fine again as soon as it dried out.
