Our Grundel(Dutch boat) has a 10mm thick flat bottom the top of which is the cabin sole.
For restricted head-room and comfort reason, I want a very thin very efficient insulating nice looking kind of gear to line it with.
Any ideas???
I have thought of using cork, but so far have failed to find some in about 10-12mmthick tiles. It seems the ideal material, but comes in either 4mm decorative -type tiles or in a minimum of 20mm not so decorative-type from a french company.
Any suggestion most welcome.M.

Did you get any results from your insulation question . The reason i ask is that we have a similar problem. We have a Fairline 33 at enjoy Anchoring , apart from the noise of the water lapping on the hull which sometimes keeps us awake

I have a couple of suggestions:

Try Thinsulate. I thinki its made by 3M. A search for teh name in posts about 6 months old will pull up a post with the name and number of someone to contact. It is quite expensive, but does great duty at both sound and heat insulation. Its thin too.

In the end though I went for laminate flooring underlay. Its a closed cell foam that is easy to cut and fit. easy to join (spray mount and tape) and is quite cheap. Obviously make sure you go for the better quality fire retardant stuff, which is about £15 or £20 for a 3x2 metre length. Does a great job at keeping down condensation, but less good and reducing noise than the thinsulate I imagine.

Nick
