In a recent PBO there was a story about a MOB that was rescued when the crew threw a floating spotlight towards where they could hear but not see the MOB. The MOB got the lantern and was then rescued. Any recommendations on rechargeable, floating spotlights?

If this is an "emergency only" item, don't go rechargeable - They always need recharging!

Fit (e.g.) Duracell dry batteries - They hold their charge for years and produce more energy than (most) rechargeables. Even come stamped with a "best before" date so you know when to change them!

[/ QUOTE ] Very true

Far better I would have thought to have a flashing strobe light on a lifebuoy or even better a danbuoy with light plus lifebuoy

A very good spotlight for this is the Peli king - I use it as my main diving light. It takes 8 "D" cells and floats beam upwards. Great torch for use as a general aid for nighttime use.
