Hi
Are floating lines useful in the Med and excuse the dumb question but what do forum members use them for as I need to decide if I need to invest in some before we depart in May.

Thanks

Mark

I have sailed in the med since 2010, I am not sure what the reason for floating lines would be other than a MOB Throw line. The best thing for the med is Old kids T-shirts for the fenders, the Sun breaks down your fenders in no time. Be exciting and get some colourful T shirts too :-)

Very good for "Tie-backs" to the shore when in a crowded anchorage. Since we first went there (in 1978), we have changed from sinking to floating tie-backs simply because of the numbers of yachts around now in popular anchorages.

Max.

A Tie-Back? is that a shore line for when you loop a chain around a rock and have a line from that to the stern with the anchor out ahead?

We have done the same. Changed from double-braid polyester that dragged along the bottom and snagged rocks to polypropylene that floats. Braided polyprop is very nice but we could not find any at the time, so what we have is 3-ply.

We also use polypropylene - 200m of 12mm online about 3 years ago for £25 I think. We cut it in two and have a port and starboard bag ready for tieing to shore. Just bagged up again after use rather than coiled which would be horrible to do. Two lines partly because a lot of people tie that way with an angle so their stern can't move so you need to follow suit, and partly becauase with line that cheap I assume that eventually a line will break.
