Anyone care to estimate how many powered craft people there are in Thames constituencies?

We know there are around 9000 powered craft registered annually so that probably means at least 2 people per boat = 18000 or so.

There must be several Thames constituencies which are marginal enough for our votes to be important to the sitting MP if they wish to get re-elected in May. Anyone live in such a constituency and if so which ones?

Yes, I am getting political :D

arbut.......everyone I know who boats on GOR.* lives miles away from where they keep their boat,in some cases hundreds of miles and most 30/40/50 miles away.Number of folks who live and boat on the banks must be very small indeed. ?
*Gods Own River.

Might be "Gods Own River" but he needs a little help from us mere mortals if its to be preserved and nourished as a recreational asset. Looks likely that further major cuts in funding this year will result in capital maintenance spending being well below what is needed annually just to maintain the assets. The river is currently in fairly good shape but won't take long for this to become a serious issue.

As for services to boaters, it remains to be seen what level of service delivery will be achieved - although I am sure the operational team will do their best to deliver there are certainly no guarantees.

As for the politics - think about it. The non tidal river MP's (most of whom are Conservative) did a much better job in supporting us when they were in opposition ....... :D

With the economy picking up,especially along Thames corridor, and hopefully an increase in disposable income, maybe some of that will be spent on boating. However having a boat no longer appears on the wish list of the man on the Brixton Omnibus.
