Hi i was wondering could you guys give me some advice as i now own a rib i will obviously be caught out in the rain and elements i would like to use the rib during the winter also could you advise me as to what would be the best clothing to wear i was looking something which wouldnt be to bulky and would be easy to wear over my own clothes etc thanks

good old fashioned sailing wet weather gear. Jacket & Trousers from the likes of HL, Musto etc wooly hat and the part of clothing i liked for winter open air blasting was a pair of ski / jetski goggles

When I had a RIB we used Musto HPX dry suits however, I think Typhoon make a cheaper alternative but different quality. Flotation suits tend to be more neoprene based and ideal for off boat use ie floating!!

If you really want to go ribbing then there are a number of options. Let's discount the floatations suit first. Right next, for serious ribbing then a breathable dry suit, with a good quality under suit is a must. Dry suits do not in themselves keep you warm. It is the layers below, and actually your "normal" clothes are not the answer. The best under garment I have come across is the Thermaflect All in One Undersuit which uses Flectalon material which is a thermal insulation invented to give high performance, where effective thermal protection from extreme climatic conditions is the main requirement.

The Undersuit includes multi-layers which entrap air and multiple reflecting surfaces to throw back body heat to the user. It is neither bulky or cumbersome and is easily cleaned using mild detergents in a quick 40°C wash. The Undersuit retains its insulative qualities when wet or compressed and the quilt construction retains thermal integrity throughout the life of the garment.

Wearing it closest to the skin will reflect back the body heat quickly, clothing can then be worn on top of the suit if required. This product is also breathable and therefore prevents the huge amount of condensation that builds up when wearing a dry suit for example.

It really is the preverbal dogs testicles! The normal "woolly bears" pale into insignificance compared to this bit of kit. I don't do cold or wet these days and I wear one of these next to my skin and it keeps me comfortable all day without feeling restricted. Under a breathable dry suit it is perfect, but you can also complement it with another product called a rib suit. This has a built in life jacket and is designed for wearing on a rib and even has a kill cord attachment built into the leg pocket. It is 100% waterproof breathable and windproof outer fabric and lightweight drop liner, it's also fitted with twin internal adjuster straps together with leg adjusters to ensure maximum comfort and fit. Xtreme also has both internal and external pockets. Additionally, it has a neon yellow hood with 3M Scotchlite SOLAS grade tape to aid visibility and detection.

If you want more information the pm me. To use the old adage, I liked the product so much, I brought the company! I wish, but I do sell them only because they are the best kit for rib use I have found. Knocks conventional sailing kit into a cocked hat.
