Tunisair appear to have stopped flying Monastir to London direct....and the charter companies will not accept bookings originating in Tunisia. BA Tunis to London are asking a ridiculous price.

Has anyone found a way of accessing the cheap charter flights (preferably from Monastir) from inside Tunisia. The Thomas Cook website allows you to go through the whole booking process and then when you try to pay it says you can`t book these flights online. Direct contact by phone draws a blank.

No luck so far

The kind relative in the UK tried to book our flights online ....and the site refused the bookings.........He is now trying the direct approach.....but I suspect the result will be the same... Will report back.

No luck.....

Avro have Monastir as a destination......but not as a `source`. As far as the UK is concerned....I expect this will be true of all airlines except Tunisair...and British Airways...who only fly from Tunis....and may be due to currency and other regulations governing charter airlines......So...for Monastir,...you can`t leave except on a Tunisian airline.....and in true Kafkaesque fashion..... Tunisian airlines don`t fly direct to the UK.
(it would appear)

I had this problem when I sailed into Tunisia. Bizarre isn't it? Basically if you don't fly in by charter flight you can't fly out by charter flight.

For me the cheapest solution was to fly out to Malta and from there to the UK.

I found the cheapest flights to be Tunsair from Tunis to Malta and then Air Malta from Malta to the UK.

Hope that helps

Cracked it

.....after spending an inordinately long time on the internet...I`ve finally managed to book reasonably timed (mostly) and priced(mostly) flights Monastir-Marseille, Marseille -Stanstead..and Gatwick- Marseille, Marseille - Monastir using Transavia/Ryanair and BA/Transavia.

Three bookings with three different airlines....I just hope none of them cancel or have delays...that would be a fine expensive mess....

I checked this out a few years ago and also found that the French Connection was the only way to go.
The Tunisians spent a hundred years getting rid of the French and now they want them all back as tourists!!!

news from Tunisia?

Bonjour Gentlemen,

Please, apologize for my broken english, I am Norman, French...

Do you have news about situation in tunisian marinas? I left El Kantaoui the 15 of january, considering security and insurance problems with the "Revolution". I motor to Malta via Lampedusa and I am now seriously balancing: stay in Malta and try to find a berth ( Swift Trawler 42 ') - it sounds to be not easy - or be back to Tunisia end of march...

There is an interesting website to have a look on what's going on in Tunisia at the moment: www.babnet.net with links every day to newspapers from Tunis.

Best regards,
Dominique

Hello Dominique

......everything is back to normal as far as tourists are concerned. The supermarkets are full...and all the Tunisians have big smiles.
There is no sense of danger at all.......and we are not expecting the situation to deteriorate. The state of emergency is due to be lifted at any time soon. The curfew is midnight to 4am....which is not a problem. The Tunisians would love all the tourists to return so their economy can get back to normal.......

Bonjour Nohoh,

Thank you very much indeed for your kind reply. I would like to be as optimistic as you...There is still violence and disorders in the country with insecurity on roads (read message today in Le Temps about car jaking and so on...). Many strikes with employees looking for better life and "civil war "atmosphere between ex RCD fans and "révolutionnaires"...
Anyway, I wish to be back soon, Tunsians are very friendly people and most of them are not fanatic muslims!

It was a couple of years ago, but I managed to fly out of Monastir using Thomson Fly, it was booked on the telephone by a family member in thev UK. When I returned to Tunisia, it was cheaper to book a return flight, then not use the second part of the ticket. My flights were in October.
I hope this helps.
