Planning to overwinter at Yatlift, Turkey this year
Could those of much experience please advise us about which airlines provide the cheapest flights from Bodrum to the UK in Aug and Sept?
Any tips appreciated.

Mike

i don't know about Bodrum in the winter (we were in Marmaris), but don't discount BA or Turkish Airlines to Izmir or Istanbul - especially for your return flight when you will probably want to bring back lots of stuff.
BA's luggage allowance is a lot more generous than the charter flights - 23 kg hand luggage and 23 kg check-in bag. you can also add a further 10 bags of 23kg at around 25gbp each bag (pre-paid before you get to the airport, you don't have to commit when you book) - thats about 1gbp/kg - far better value than say, thomas crook at 8gbp/kg.

Internal transport is plentiful in Turkey and good usually good value considering the distances involved.

You could also look into Onur Air. We used them quite a few times before the charter companies made it all really cheap. Only thing is the charter flights now charge for every gram of baggage you take on board, so whilst an Onur Air flight may seem more expensive, they are cheaper in the long run if you are carting stuff to and fro. I think the website is holidays4U but you must use the phone number, don't go by the data on the website.

As an airline pilot I'd stick to European airlines purely for safety reasons. Leave Onur well alone. They are the only non African or Asian airline ever to be banned in the EU for safety failings, and although that ban is now lifted...
(You wouldn't believe how appallingly, regularly and blatantly bad an airline has to be before any EU state will take the politically drastic step of actually banning it.)

Maybe Easyjet will see the light and continue a service through the winter. (20 Kg hold allowance and "within reason" in the cabin)
