Comments, advice please, boat is a Nic 32, engine Watamota. The exaust is dry to the mixer/water injection box, then flex hose. Due to corrosion the dry part (steel water type pipe and fittings) has an exaust gas leak. I am thinking of cutting out the corroded section and "bridging" it with flex s/s pipe.
Any suggestions on best material to clamp and seal the joints gratefully recieved. Bill.

Hi Bill,
I would personally use a car exhaust paste like holts (tetrasyl) gun gum which hardens with heat, smear this on the steel pipe and slide over the flexible pipe securing with a couple of s/s jubilee clips. If there is a significant gap between flexible pipe and steel pipe then I suggest first wrapping the steel pipe with a dampened sodium silicate impregnated proprietary exhaust repair bandage, to form a packing and secure with clips.
however this is just a personal opinion.
best of luck
John

Don't use the slightly flexible spiral wound type with a copper inser piece, it work hardens, cracks and is then impossible to repair. I would stick with a simple and robust steel pipe which will be easy to mend. Is it not possible to fit an injection elbow and cut out the dry part of the exhaust completely.

Thanks for that John, and thanks Neil, I am going to look at your option in the winter when we are laid up somewhere, It,s a mystery to me why it,s so complicated, maybe the levels and length of the run, plus the manifold is well below water level, the mixer is in the cockpit coaming, it,s one of those cast iron things and a bu##er to get at.
