Hi,

OK so I thought someone at least should attempt a reply. Firstly I would suggest this is not a common boat (Fletchers are, but the 240 appears not to be), hence why nobody has responded!

So speaking from what I have seen of the only one I can find:

Fletcher 240

... it looks an interesting alternative to the norm. Well priced and if only they had bothered taking the covers off the outside and emptying the c**p from the inside and gave it a clean prior to taking a picture I am sure it would look great (boat brokerage could learn a think or too from a well run franchised car dealer!). The hull will be good, I don't think Fletcher made a bad one (IMO). 4 berth, V8 engine, so a bit thirsty, but parts readily available and will have some grunt. At the price this one can be bought for it looks good value... but photo's can hide a multitude of horrors....

Good luck

Thank you for the reply, that one you linked to is the exact boat in question. As firefly said cant find much information about them on here either.

Does seem a lot of boat for the money, from what found out from the broker is that its been kept on dry berth since 97 and in same marina all that time with 2 owners in that time. Serviced and winterised each season, full covers as seen in the picture aswell as full canopys and hoods.

had a fletcher arrowflight as first boat felt very sold built, with good handling hull.

You stated that the motor is a 350 MAG, you mean mercruiser, presumably. Has it been repowered? 1992 is getting on a bit.
Have a good close look at whats lurking below the engine hatch cover!
Nothing wrong with a well maintained motor, but look for evidence (proof) of regular maintainance.
Any paint loss, or bubbling on the exhaust manifolds and thermostat cover, means it has over-heated at some stage and needs thorough examination.
Expect a fuel consumption rate of around 30 litres an hour @ 20knots.

The photos clearly shows the engine badged as a 350 Magnum... not sure when they started badging the 350 Magnum as such, and yes I also understand the magnum to be 300hp..up from the normal mercruiser V8 220hp. I wonder if it has already been re-engined?

The engine does look very shiny in the pics, but 350 Magnums were certainly around back in 1992, so it could well be the original engine. The 350 Magnums of that vintage are 270HP and are normal carburetted versions, rather than the latest MPI ones which have 300HP. BTW the 350 refers to the displacement of the engine in cubic inches = 5.7litres, so in terms of engine size, the Magnum is no bigger than the normal 5.7 V8.

Thank you all for the imput it was the price and size that took me hook line and sinker. from a google search the original 350 mercruiser was the 5.7 with a different badge on it. Just going by google.
Thanks to superscuffer for confirming that about the engine a i wasnt 100% sure

Is there anyone on here at or near Abersoch that could do me a favour and possibily take a look at the boat in person take even more pictures?, just its a 12 hour round trip from where I am. Or should I start a new thread asking if someone is able to this for me?.

Will be honest I am in contact with the dealer and have paid a provisional deposit on the boat.

Ewan,

It may be a first step to see if anyone is in the local area and can take a quick look, but you just cannot get around the fact you need to go and look at it.... You really need to have a sea trial to ensure the engine doesn't go pop the first time you use it... and to ensure it floats.... I'm sure there will be a few good B&B's around .. make a weekend of it!

If you do decide to see if anyone can go and have a look I would suggest a new post with such a request... If anyone is out there with any technical (or survey) skills it may be worth paying for such a person to go and take a proper look for you (I'm not talking of a proper survey here, so there would not be any professional guarantees!).

The thing to ask yourself, if you get someone to go and take a look & they come back to you and say its a basket case, will you still want to go and see it for yourself...if the answer is yes, then you may as well bite the bullet and just get down there!!!!

Thanks for the advice on what should be looking out for and what to do, I will be starting a new post about asking if anyone can go look at the boat in person.

Problem of going down for a weekend is that member of family has to take oxygen cylinders and compressor for overnight use along with 2 dogs. Never an easy option as such if got to get the boat its got to be a one day trip up down.

OK, then a new post it see if someone is local is certainly the way to go... as I suggested I would be tempted to offer payment if someone is local with some boat savy to go and take a look on your behalf.

Looking forward to finding out how you get on as I can see the appeal in this boat... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
