Fleshpots of the Solent

Bucklers Hard showers were included last time I was there - they are much nicer than they used to be.

Agreed that Lymington and Berthon are both lovely. Yarmouth is better now that they don't make you buy tokens and have to leave your cubicle to get the shower going! East Cowes is my preferred Cowes marina - unless I know I need to be in Cowes proper. Lifeboat pub is decent as are the facilities.

I also quite like Shamrock Quay - good showers and we joke about the music in there. It's often 70s/80s pop/disco on a Saturday evening and then something classical on the Sunday morning. However, occasionally, they've forgotten to switch it blasting out 'You can ring my be-e-e-ell" when crew are recovering from slight hangovers.

The other place that's really upped their game in the last couple of years is Royal Clarence in Gosport. Much less bouncy than Haslar or Gosport and their showers are now in the main block (rather than the carpark) and are individual 'rooms' with loo, shower etc together. Staff are always lovely there too.

Must be. Brighton's east jetty facilities have gone all classic fm since the upgrade along with chi and swanwick. Perhaps you have to be a well-to-do mail-reader with a mobo to truly appreciate the classiness of it though.

I never really got the point of Bucklers hard. The river is beautiful. The marina was an over-priced rickety test of berthing skills with rubbish facilities. Sounds like it may now be a rickety test of berthing skills with good facilities. I'll probably still stick to the buoys.

Lovely river walk up to Beaulieu too..

Different folks have different priorities I guess. Last night we had lovely hot showers in a warm clean environment - on board with views over the hills of Eigg and Rum, with Ardnamurchan light in the other direction.
Don’t feel tempted back to visit the Solent for its shower facilities :)

Spent some time on Eigg years ago. it remains an ambition of mine to sail there one day. Truly spectacular scenery and I bet the sailing is even better at times.
