Decided that I need to replace it after many years sterling work. The final nail for it's coffin is the oven door not shutting properly after it got lent on. The hob controls are also to easy to turn on and only the oven has flame failure. It's a shame as the burners work well !

I know that I am possibly one of the last ones to make the change, but does anyone remember what they replaced their flavell vanessa with or other suggestions ? I only require 2 hobs, grill and oven. So far I have the Neptune 4500 cooker on the list. Doesn't need to be gimbaled as it is on my catamaran.

We lived with a Vanessa for twelve years in our Sadler 29 but as they don’t have a flame-failure device they need to be treated with care. I have half an idea that some people have fitted f/f devices but I’m far from sure about it.

Another Vanessa, here! Original fit in 1977 and still going strong. It got replacement hob burners from an e-bay donor a couple of years ago, so good for many seasons, yet.

Mine came from the skip many years ago as well.
Will look at the spinflo if it is still available unless you want to dispose of your spare !

I am wondering whether I could fit door seals that would possibly stop all the heat escaping.
Sorry, my spare is not for sale. My door is quite close fitting. You may not gain much by fitting a door seal. For example, I often bake those half-baked baguettes from the supermarket and they turn out very well when baked for the time given on the packet. OK, yes, with a door seal you may be able to reduce the heat but as the oven control knob has no graduations and is little more than an on/off knob it will be too much of a hit-and-miss process.
