Flatholm to be sold off?

I was there with work a few months ago, a lot of work has gone on to bring the island into self sufficiency, there are only a few full time staff members with the rest being volunteers etc..

You never know, maybe a marina for visiting boats would be on the cards !!!

Cheers

3 full time paid staff on the island, upto 8 volunteers who stay for 6 months, all expenses paid, 1 full time coxwain, 1 part time coxwain for the Lewis Alexander.1 office based island manager, 1 person who takes the bookings over the phone...so all in all, alot of potential redundancys.

lots of work carried out on the foghorn cottage last year bringing it up to a decent standard to rent out ,the furniture was donated by John Lewis and is of good quality as is the new kitchens.
its a crying shame but not sustanable as a going concern.

you really have to question what the council are doing employing from what you say 7 people fuill time on such a venture. why does flatholm need anyone at all?

To be fair it is only 5 full time staff, the office guy does other work as well as FH stuff, if you go onto FH website you will see what they do or did.

As I understand it Cardiff Bay Yacht Club are thinking of putting in a bid. At least it will stay put unlike the PYC ODM.

"offers around 3 mil" prepare for a hike in fees:)

have you seen the marina income these days? They can easily borrow enough money covering the interest chanrges with their income. And it wont fethc 3 million either - who else would want it. Maybe the RSPB?
