Flat wall mounted TV\'s

I am trying to find a flat (TFT or LCD), wall mountable,TV that can be used on 12v when away from hook-up and 240v when not. Preferably with a widescreen format. The other item is a small DVD player that can be used in the same way.

Do such items exist?

Our man in Curry's says NO! But I think he mighten't be the font of all, if any, knowledge.

Cheers

Steve

Re: Flat wall mounted TV\'s

We use a Sharpe Aquos 15" (not WS) that uses a 12v transformer. Have never used a direct 12v input but see no reason why not. Also you could use a dc-dc convertor to step the voltage up if you go for one that requires a higher voltage. There are 12v DVDs around, search on this forum as it has come up in the past or there are usually plenty on ebay for reference.

Richard.

Have a look on Mobochat forum. There have been several threads on the subject recently

All the LCD tellies I have looked at can be wall mounted

Re: Flat wall mounted TV\'s

They can all be wall mounted, but not many run off 12v directly

Re: Flat wall mounted TV\'s

Ran a TFT screen Last year on our boat when we lived on it, was directly connected using a 12V lighter socket connection.
Worked a treat when connected to our onboard computer which had a DVD player on it.
Was even fine, for use for navigation, when the engine was running

cheapest/neatest brackets I found (with locking screw so you can leave it fixed under way) was chaseavdirect

Slight concerns about presuming that a "12V" adaptor tv will relish 14 V from a charging system.....many users here report no prob's, but...)

Re: Flat wall mounted TV\'s

I have just installed a Sharpe Aquos 15" in my Dad's boat. It does run off 12v but after speaking with the manufacturer they suggested it should only be run using the supplied lead / transformer and that it would not be under guarantee if this was not used.

We decided to go for the 12 -> 240 inverter (600w) option. This means also we can save loads of money when getting the DVD player as 12v are more expensive and the 240 supply is useful for laptops etc.

Cheapest and slimmest bracket I found at the time was on dabs for about £30 with P&P.

I can also recommend the Glomex omidirectional digital aerial, providing we are not in Gosport the reception is great.

Why bother

when you can get a PCMCIA Hauppage card for about £30 that'll allow you to use your laptop as a TV set and buy a solid-state convertor which will allow you to feed it direct from your domestic batteries for another £50.
You'll have a far better picture and you can use the DVD/CD player for music or videos (mind you'll need a pair of decent speakers).
The usual route for boat stereo is to fit a car-radio-player.

However if you go down the route suggested you'll be able to buy laptop, card and convertor and still have change from your proposed purchases

Re: Flat wall mounted TV\'s

Just had delivery of a new Relisys RLT1720 17' monitor today
Great bit of kit runs on 12v multi input including PC DVD TV tuner ect
and can be wall mounted which we are doing for a show we have coming up.

Well worth a look at

I posted this earlier on the mobo forum:

Further to the earlier thread on Flat Screen TVs. The following may be of interest to some:

This is 15 v (use a step up converter) It is widescreen and has a multistandard tuner (PAL/SEACAM/NTSC) and also a digital tuner for free to view channels
It also has the ability to accept PC input.

My local caravan shop has a nifty little DVD/MP3 player for abt £110, that runs on 12v. I will be discovering whether this is multistandard next week.

Now all I have to resolve is what is the best omnidirectional aerial for a multistandard TV including free to view

Re: Flat wall mounted TV\'s

I use a 7" TFT on the boat direct from 12V. Presently £149 with Maplin. A bit small but fine where I want it in my forward berth.
