Flat hose?

Can't see any reason for 'food grade' hose. Doesn't everyone run the water until it's fresh before putting it in the tank? Things are getting even more balmy in Blighty ..... except for the weather, I guess.

hoselock and other's make garden pipes out of plasticizers (SP) which is made from chicken sh!te it can taste awful, and cause you problems...

We have a flat hose on a roller cassette for filling the tanks but its now leaking badly despite not being that old or over-used. I have seen others using even flatter hoses which looked more material than plastic and am keen to try one of these. Anyone have any experience of these and where to get them? I cannot find via google but maybe I am using the wrong words.
Thanks

We bought ours at B&Q, green material in a grey cassette, I think it was around £25 a few years ago.

This looks very similar (I used the terms 'flat hose cassette' in google)

The one we have is very light and compact
Seems pretty tough, I am not precious with it and it has often been dragged over harbour walls and the like
It does not kink as much as reinforced garden type hose (this surprised me)

Downside

It is a bit of a bugger to empty and put away as the hose diameter is quite narrow. On a pontoon it can mean laying out the full length and walking it over your shoulder until all the water has run out. This is a little easier on a harbour wall as you can use the height to get extra gravity. There is a kink type arrangement on the cassette to get the last drops out; but without first emptying the bulk it will leave water and thus you will struggle to get all the pipe back on.

I don't know if the semi-flat reinforced hose cassettes are the same, but on the material types you have to unroll the whole hose and remove it from the cassette before use.

>> I would however buy this type again, the small size is enough to make it worthwhile, knowing the 2 drawbacks above does not put me off, we have become quite adept at putting it away now we know what must be done.

hope this helps.

We bought a cheepo Aldi one (fabric sheathed) and it failed after second use.

.

You did well - mine burst apart as soon as I tried it! No problem getting a refund from Aldis but a waste of time petrol fetching and returning it.

What I now do is have two lengths of round yellow Hozelock hose which can be tucked in odd corners when coiled up. Most of the time, in marinas, one length is adequate and the Hozelock connectors make it easy to connect the extra length when needed.
