Flat calm or realistic?

First boat so SWMBO is expecting to be deck jewellery (there that's offended all the ladies, but I mean it in the nicest possible way, really ! ) That usually means calm enough not to spill her drink or get splashed.

My experience of weather is on fishing boats, been out in a Force ?? big waves ! got stuck at the bow huddled under the gunwale as there was literally just raging sea between there and the bridge for about an hour. Didn’t like it much. I did wonder what would happen in my little pleasure craft in the same weather, after all it's more like a converted plastic bath with a top on and and couple of big engines !

What happens when a turbo driven engine comes out of the water? I have all this to come, although maybe not if swmbo has any say.

Not a lot. It's what happens when you hit the water again that can be interesting. In a cruiser, maybe there's a huge crash and you break something, or something that was previously a little broken becomes a little more broken...

Slow, heavy, cruisers don't normally leave the water. What speed did you say you intended to drive at ?

Re: Good idea

I suppose that provided you didn't killem, you've done them a favour. Most winter sports aren't very extreme at all, really, are they? Apart from the apres ski of course...

I am expecting to get 26 -28 kts out of her, we were doing 26kts on the sea trial, of course I dont know what speed we could manage in big seas. I expect very fast before they arrive /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If it's off the land, I dont care how hard it blows. Long as I 'm going round the coast of course. F4 is enough on the bows, but thats more about comfort. Suppose F5 from behing, but only cos that might mean F7. But even thats OK'ish Depends alot where I'm going and how many headlands with overfalls.

don't mind pots and pans flying out, this happens mostly, but I do think that its too rough when the force of the sea opens the closed mirowave door, the plate thingie is thrown out and and the door shuts its self again.

Ah Yes, the microwave door opening gale!! Worst I've seen!! Get it included in the weather forecast, between force 8 and 9! Tee Hee

We tend not to go out in anything forecast above an F6 and this is in the med. Although we've been caught out in a Mistral after the Monaco grand prix. 3m-5m seas and we had outstayed our berth so we were forced to brave it to Golfe Juan. Normally a 45 minute journey took 3 hours to get to Antibes, moments before we ran out of fuel. Averaging about 16knots with every third wave breaking on the bow, not very pleasant but good experience. And to this day i still don't think we've got all the salt out. Just shows you can get some nasty storms in the med. Last summer we had 2m swells rolling in when it must have been blowing F1-2. Not many people out then, which was great because all the anchorages were empty, a very rare sight on Pampelonne in mid July.

My wife doesn't like getting wet, so we never go out in seas >3ft /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif But then, unless there's a hurricane, we always have the ICW to pootle about in. F-cast today f2-3 and 25CF so might go out.
