Flares

Ok I admit it all my flares are from the last century! Does anyone have information on wheres the best (cheapest) place to get new reputable ones from ?

I know we'll all disappear up our jumpers at the difficulty of disposing of the old ones, but where do we ?

I was looking at my collection of expensive out-of-date flares recently, and I actually wondered whether I'd bother getting new ones. I can see a use for flares in a liferaft (and my liferaft has flares), but with handheld VHF, DSC, etc, I wonder whether they are still needed in the boat. *awaits fierce criticism*

Not very likely I'll concede but if you get a lightning strike there's a good bet all electrickery will cease and desist promptly. Pyro on the other hand is less fussy, and has no batteries to go flat at inopportune moments.

i have recently got rid of some of my flares which were out of date, 13 in total, now with being an average of £17 per flare minimum. it soon mounts up and having to get rid without using them equivalants to quite a bit of money, which could be spent else where on boat, there are not that many items we buy that we dont use.

Yes, almost certainly - if it was switched on. It should be OK if you keep it in the oven tho - as it acts as a Faraday cage.
