Flares marked 2009-12 - have they expired?

Don't they make a batch every four years that will last the extra day.. rather than them expiring early :)

Now I see why it's an 'expiry' date. If it were a 'Use by' date we might just have to use them to be compliant.

Funny - I thought I bought the flares in summer 2008 - first season with the new boat. Hence I thought the 12 referred to 2012 not the 12th month December as in '2009 to 2012 inclusive'.........will check in the swindlery tomorrow how the dates are printed.

If suppose that if you had an emergency in 2008 you would not have used your flares because it was too early for them to be in date. They would not be ripe yet!

The manufacturer's website should explain.

If they're the new type, they self destruct automatically on their last day to save us having to deal with time expired ones.

:)

(Some of the above may not be strictly correct)

If you bought them in 2008, why would they possibly have a period before they could be used (2008-2009) ?!

No need to check - they expired over two years ago, definitely.

Buy them somewhere else next time - two seasons' validity is a bit stingy, a good chandler will have ones on offer with more than that left to go. The ones in my local shop expire at the end of 2015 and have been on sale since quite early this year.
