flares again

just been hunting around boat and found a box full of out of date flares actually 27 of them with expiry dates of 1979 to 1985, previous owner must have stored them in a little cubby hole and we have only just found it, so where do i take them ??

Similar problem to you, but only about 12 to dispose of. I think the regs have changed, and there's advice in the article on Flares in the current PBO. I think you have to dispose of them at a CG office, but call ahead to make sure they have space. Police don't take them anymore. Some chandlers may take them off you, if you buy new from them.
 
The police do take them, take them to a main station not a rural one. They have to have the facility - if you walked in with a grenade, they would have to take it. Insist, if they quibble ask them what you should do with them.

Coastguard will only take a limited amount, a main supplier should take old ones in if you buy a new set.
 
Hi In your location I suggest you have a word with Suffolk Sailing. They are a life raft service center and as such have to dispose of flares all of the time. If they won't take them they will tell you who will in your area.
