<font color=blue>OK I now have the griff. Until 1998 a British registered vessel was allowed to have firearms without a licence but needed a licence to take the firearm ashore for any reason such as maintenance. Since the law was revised in 1997 this 'right' was withdrawn with effect of 1998. There is however a provision made for 'signalling equipment' such as a Flare Pistol for which a licence will be granted free of charge. Thats it very much in a nutshell.
