Can anyone advise of somewhere in Cornwall, or just across into Devon, where I can dispose of my old, well expired, flares. I also have a very old fire extinguisher, what about disposal of that.

Thanks in advance.

I rang Brixham CG last week on just this subject and they asked me to take my old flares to Cosalt in Saltash. They (CG) are trying to get the suppliers to take responsibility for disposal but then went on to say Cosalt would charge me for the disposal!

I had a shed load of well expired flares (some dated back to 1981 so must have been original to the boat).
My nearest and dearest took them all to Saltash police station a couple of months ago, and they took them no problem.

I phoned Portland Coastguard, with regards what to do with some that had been lying in our shed for a year. They phoned me back, arranged a pick-up date, and duly turned up to collect them.

The Coastguard at Falmouth will take them. Just take them along in a carrier bag and hand them in at reception. I took mine there about 1 month ago.

They put them in a special container and have them removed periodically.
