Following on from the earlier Flag of Convenience query I contacted VAT. My boat is registered in Jersey but kept here, my question therefore was "do I pay VAT on stuff for the boat" The answer was if the boat is kept here and is a pleasure craft "yes!" if the boat is kept elsewhere and brought here to get the goods or services then "No!"

Re advice from VAT boys

IMHO that's correct. But I question the tactic used, and recommended elsewhere on BB, to "contact your local C&E office to et VAT advice". I mean, what do you expect em to say??

Re: clueless VAT boys

it's always strange. Two different vat people say different things (about other issues). If they were really hot hot guys...they wouldn't work for the vat peeps now would they?
